Completely Stopped in my Tracks

I have been unable to do any physical activity for the last 3 1/2 days. I got a flu and a pneumonia vaccine Tuesday afternoon (thank goodness I got in my 45 min bike before work) and promptly got a migraine. I woke up Wednesday feeling terrible but tried to tough it out at work. When I got home, I discovered I had a temperature of 102 and I was shivering and miserable. In addition to dealing with flu like symptoms for all this time, I have had terrible pain in my arm where the shots were administered and I cannot raise it without significant pain. I am going in again today for my doc to look at the 5 inch circle of redness and pain.

So I figure, once I am feeling human again the best I will, hopefully, be able to do for awhile is bike. No swimming. And even walking jars my arm enough for me to want to stop moving.

So frustrated!

Track with a hill built into it!!Hmmmmmmmmmm….Interesting concept………
Aldo, Spain: Designing an athletic track could get you as bored as when you are runnig on it: curve, straight, curve, straight, again and again… Perfectly standardized, sport architecture has become more universal than international style.Track length of 400 m, 36.5 m radious. 1.22 m each lane….just  data, without any fissure to let your imagination soar.   We have added to the conventional track an alternative one, amateur and funny, raised and tree-dimensional. It goes off on a tangent, covers the changing rooms and returns to the coventional track. As new ways are available for athletes, spectators get involved in the sport activity, seated in-between this two tracks. This is our tribute to all the sport pioners that created new ways of performing that later others followed. Tom burke, dick fosbury, graeme obree….

Free training plans from TrainingPeaks

I got an email this week and took advantage of this offer.

Sign up for Endurance Planet’s weekly email newsletter and get 2 free training plans from TrainingPeaks:

  • 10 Weeks to a 10K
  • 12 Week Century Bike Ride Plan
  • 15 Week Sprint Triathlon Training Plan

These 3 plans would normally cost $250.

If you don’t already have one, you’ll need to sign up for a free TrainingPeaks account as well, but I think it is a good program you may even want to use. If not, you can print the training plans and use them any time.

Works great for me, since I am just beginning my sprint tri-plan and can always use more ideas and I really want to do the Portland Century some day

I don’t know much about Endurance Planet, but it looked like it will have some good things to offer.

A great deal!!
Important! They will ask for a credit card #, but as long as you put in the promo code you don’t need to type in a card number…it worked for me.

IT Band progress

So I have been battling issues with my IT Band ever since I started running 2years ago. I had it very much under control and it was giving me no problems until I trained for the 1/2 marathon last year. Once I hit 10 mile runs it was a constant source of concern.

After the race, I laid off the running and did some physical therapy (gained 5 pounds in the process), but didn’t really feel like it was doing any good.

I have been running more since Christmas and it still nags at me. My right knee has been the main issue, but I also suspect it the source of my left hip pain as well.

I now foam roll every day and with tri training am doing a lot of cross training.

So long story not short, after two back to back 3+ mile runs this weekend it has not even made it’s presence known.

Hopefully, I am on the up side of dealing with this and now the only trick will be preventing it again in the future. Especially if and when I decide to ramp up my distance again.

Cross your fingers!

Back on Track

30 minute run 3.14 miles

Slower than I would like but I got it done. Was difficult today and last week I did 4 miles in 38 minutes and it felt great. Wish I knew what made the difference.

Setback

Another, slight setback today. Sudden onset of an illness sent me home from work early to head to the doc and get some antibiotics. Felt crappy all afternoon so I bailed on my 30 min run. I think I will be able to make up for missed workouts this weekend though.

Friday is a “Budget Reduction Day” in our district (i.e. the state can’t afford to adequately fund out schools and educate our kids) so I have a 4-day weekend.

This will translate into making up workouts on Friday and Monday even though they are scheduled days off.

Here’s the plan -
Thursday: 1000 yd swim
Friday: 30 min run
Saturday: 35 minute run (can only run since we’ll be at my parents)
Sunday: 45 min bike AND 2nd swim lesson!!!
Monday: Hmmmm….not sure what to schedule here….I will have to scrutinize next week’s schedule.

This is the bane of my existence!! Although I am always finding them in pants pockets. I think I have thrown away one finished “lip stuff” in all my life
fatfridays:

Where do they go? Who knows… Although I did have a tub of carmex melt into oblivion in my car cupholder one time, so I suppose you could kind of say I “finished” that one…
How is this Fitblr related? … lips get chapped sometimes from running in the wind, right? And when you aren’t drinking enough water? yeah, I’ll go with that. Drink more water, lovelies! :D

Accountability

So I guess this is the accountability piece. Got home later than usual today and as soon as I walked in the door my husband asked I’d I wanted to go out for the date might we has missed last week.

Heck ya!

But that meant missing my PM bike. I guess the good news is at least I swam today, but the bad news is that I have already gone off the plan.

Romantic dinner and quality time my husband was totally worth it!

Two-a-Days

1st of 2 workouts for today is done. 1250 yard swim drills in 40 minutes. Hope the kids are good today so I have the energy for my 45 min bike tonight
